(24-11-2017 04:25 PM)Dibble Wrote:  Saturday 20th January 2018 - Errol Spence v Lamont Peterson

This looks like a decent fight to start the new year with , unbeaten Errol Spence (22-0 , 19 KOs) defends his IBF welterweight title against Lamont Peterson (35-3-1 , 17 KOs) and like i said should be a good fight to watch. Spence won the belt in May of this year , stopping Kell Brook in the 11th round. For me Spence is one the best welterweights out there today. He has tremendous power in either hand , and he picks his shots well , he works the body mercilessly and just wears his opponents down. He's not just a puncher though , he's a busy fighter with a good boxing brain and has a solid defence from what i've seen so far. Peterson hasnt lost since 2015 when he was beaten by the decent Danny Garcia , and though on paper this may look one sided it isnt as Peterson is a more than capable fighter , he throws some very good combinations and has excellent footwork and very fast hands and he has decent punching power of his own and can certainly take a punch. As i say should be a good fight to watch but i can only see one outcome here and thats Errol Spence maintaining his unbeaten record and his belt.
Selection - Errol Spence Thumbs
Bet - Errol Spence by KO,TKO Thumbs

Oleksandr Usyk (13-0 , 11 KOs) was a decent enough amateur but has made an exemplary start to his professional career and along with gaining a junior heavyweight title he was also ranked by The Ring magazine as the best in his division in May 2017 , Mairis Briedis has also made an unbeaten start to his pro career (23-0 , 18 KOs) and on paper this looks to be a very exciting and watchable match up. Usyk has one helluva punch and he's renowned for his heavy body shots but his overall movement for a cruiserweight/heavyweight is excellent , fast , crisp and clean. Briedis , too , has plenty of power and he has a good boxing brain to boot , which cant be ignored. Either of these pair could end the fight with one punch if im being totally honest but i'm going to side with Usyk in this one (just).

(18-12-2017 07:41 PM)Dibble Wrote:  Saturday 3rd February - Murat Gassiev v Yunier Dorticos

Yunier Dorticos (22-0 , 21 KOs) defends his WBA (regular) cruiserweight title against Murat Gassiev (25-0 , 18 KOs) who is putting his IBF cruiserweight belt on the line , and as if thats not enough , its also the semi final of the world boxing super series so there's alot at stake here plus of course theres the fact that someones unbeaten record has to go as well , and i can honestly say that this should be an explosive encounter as imo these two are amongst the biggest punchers in the cruiserweight division , if not the two biggest at the moment and i really can't see this one going the distance if i'm being honest. Dorticos is nicknamed the KO Doctor and for obvious reasons , he's despatched 21 of his 22 opponents thus far , i was impressed with him last time when he KO'd the Russian Hammer , a fighter that was supposed to give him a true test , but only managed to get to the 2nd round , for sheer punching power Dorticos is very probably the hardest hitter there is in the division , but Gassiev wouldnt be far off him for punching power and has a tremendous knock out ratio of his own so obviously the chances of a knock out / stoppage in this one is plain for all to see imho. For me Gassiev is the best boxer of the two , technically and tactically , both like to come forward , with Gassiev being what i'd consider a pressure fighter with very accurate powerful punches , this is a very hard fight to call as either could end this if they catch their opponent cleanly but i'm slightly favouring Gassiev as , like i said earlier , i think he's the better boxer , for me he's been in against slightly better opposition and he's fighting on his home turf in Russia which for me would be a big plus , though as i say it is a close call and its only a tentative vote as i have to choose one , but if Dorticos catches him properly then i think its fight over.
Selection - Murat Gassiev Thumbs

(12-12-2017 12:12 PM)Dibble Wrote:  Saturday 17th February - George Groves v Chris Eubank Jr

[i][size=small]This is one fight i'm itching to watch , a real 'Battle Of Britain' , what a bout to look forward to so early on in the New Year ! George Groves (27-3 , 20 KOs) is one of my favourite fighters , he hasnt lost since 2015 and you're always guaranteed a ding dong battle when he's involved in a fight. Chris Eubank Jr (26-1 , 20 KOs) is also on a winning streal of his own , he hasnt lost since 2014 when Billy Joe Saunders beat him and he too is an exciting fighter to watch in the ring. Groves is a born brawler and almost every combination / punch he throws is thrown with menacing intent but sometimes , if the job isnt finished early , he can start to become tired / weary towards the later rounds and that could be dangerous against an opponent like Eubank Jr who seems to have stamina in abundance and has a tremendous workrate , which could prove hugely problematic for Groves should this go into the later rounds. Groves for me is the better boxer of the two , he has good foot movement and can hit hard but his tendency to mix it up rather than box does concern me at times , Eubank Jr has very quick hands and though i never really had him down as a heavy hitter i have noticed that in his last 2 or 3 fights he seems to be punching harder than ever before. Groves has been there , seen it and done it whilst Eubank Jr hasnt but i think its a huge plus that he has his dad in his corner who was one of the best British Super Middleweights this countrys seen. I really cant see this fight going the distance if i'm honest , and being even more honest i'm finding it very difficult to decide whose going to come out on top as both possess the tools to end the fight. I would love to see Groves take this but theres something nagging at me thats telling me that we havent seen the best of Eubank Jr yet and that he's going to walk away the victor.
Selection - Chris Eubank Jr Icon_frown
Bet - Fight doesnt go the distance Icon_frown

For once Groves boxed without brawling and it worked a dream , as i said in the write up for me he is the better boxer of the two and he proved that and though the clash of heads didnt help with the cut Eubank Jr recieved i still think Groves would of won . Good fight and though i got it wrong on both scores i'm still happy as like i said i would love to see Groves take this ... and he did

Saturday 24th February - Callum Smith v Nicky Holzken

Tonights the night that we find out whose going to meet St George in the final of the WBSS Super Middleweight category , Callum Smith (23-0 , 17 KOs) takes on Mieky Holzken (13-0 , 10 KOs) whose come in as a very late replacement for Braehmer who got injured late on in the lead up to this fight. I know Holzken is a pretty decent kick boxer but have to admit i know absolutely sod all about his boxing career thus far , but after looking at his resume briefly its safe to say that this is by far his biggest test to date and whilst i cannot in all honesty write off his chances completely i really cant see him beating the more experienced Smith tonight.
Selection - Callum Smith
Bet - Callum Smith by KO/TKO , Rounds 8-12

RE: Dibs Boxing / MMA Thread
Saturday April 21st -

Amir Khan v Phil Lo Greco
Amir Khan (31-4 , 19 KOs) makes his comeback against Canadian Phil Lo Greco (28-3 , 15 KOs) and to be brutally honest this fight looks to be a cherry picked opponent for Khan so he can ease his way back in before going on to face better quality opposition n, Greco isnt a bad a bad boxer but he's lacking in the power department , which is something Khan would want to avoid seeing as he seems to have a glass jaw and has a tendencey to go down when hit with a good punch ! Khan should take this , he's by far the better of the two boxers and his speed and accuracy should see him through this but there are two nagging doubts i have , the first is obviously the inability to take a good hard punch and the second is the fact he hasnt been in a ring for quite a while but im happy to take it on trust that hes fit and well and keen to get on with things. I think Khan takes this with the minimum of fuss.
Selection - Amir Khan
Bet - Amir Khan to win on points

Carl Frampton v Nonito Donaire
Carl Frampton (24-1 , 14 KOs) looked decent enough last time out when seeing off Horacio Garcia and putting his loss to Leo Santa Cruz firmly behind him and he'll be looking for an equally dominant performance against Nonito Donaire (38-4 , 24 KOs) and despite the fact that Donaire isnt going to be a pushover i fully expect The Jackal to have too much for the older fighter. Donaire can certainly punch and if he catches Frampton cleanly then there could well be an upset , but i cant see it happening , i think Frampton will play it cagey and smart and look to outbox Donaire
Selection - Carl Frampton
Bet - Carl Frampton win on points

Jermall Charlo v Hugo Centeno Jr
Jermall Charlo (26-0 , 20 KOs) was due to meet Hugo Centeno Jr (28-1 , 14 KOs) on March 3rd but due to an injured rib the fight has been re scheduled for April 21st. Charlo , for me , is one of the best middleweights around at the moment , he's a heavy puncher and knows how to set his opponent up for that knockout blow. It wont be all plain sailing though as Centeno Jr is no slouch as has a decent punch of his own , as was evident in his last fight when he dropped Aleem in the 3rd round with a brutal left hook. He's a competent boxer with fast feet and hands but he's susceptible to a good counter puncher , something that im sure Charlo and his team will have noticed and will act on. Im expecting a decent fight with this one with Charlo patiently waiting to land the big punch and Centeno Jr hitting and running , but along the way Charlo will have landed plenty of heavy blows and i think by the middle of the fight this will have taken its toll on Centeno Jr , if not before
Selection - Jermall Charlo
Bet - Jermall Charlo by KO/TKO

Saturday 14th April - Billy Joe Saunders v Martin Murray

Unbeaten Billy Joe Saunders (26-0 , 12 KOs) looks to retain his WBO world middleweight belt when he faces Martin Murray (36-4-1 , 17 KOs) and after his sublime boxing exhibition against David Lemieux last time i really can't see him losing his title here if i'm being totally honest. Whilst Murray is a decent and durable enough boxer i just don't think he has what it takes to upset and beat the talented BJS , so for me its the champ retaining his belt.
Selection - Billy Joe Saunders
Bet - Billy Joe Saunders by decision

Saturday 24th March - Dillian Whyte v Lucas Browne

Dillian Whyte (22-1 , 16 KOs) defends his WBC silver heavyweight title against Aussie Lucas Browne (25-0 , 22 KOs) , the unbeaten Browne should prove to be a real test for Whyte but his lack of recent ring activity (only 3 fights since early 2015) could prove to be a negative against the sprightly Whyte , who hasnt lost since losing to Anthony Joshua. I think Whyte will go all out to win this as he has to win and win impressively if he's to fight the big guns in the division and i think he'll do it , but although i think he'll win i dont think he'll KO the Aussie who seems a durable sort with a good chin.
Selection - Dillian Whyte
Bet - Dillian Whyte win by decision

Saturday 31st March

Anthony Joshua v Joseph Parker
Anthony Joshua (20-0 , 20 KOs) meets Joseph Parker (24-0 , 18 Kos) for a 4 belt re unification fight , Joshua's three and Parkers one , and i can see only one outcome here if i'm being honest , and thats another win and another belt for Joshua. Whilst i respect Parker and the fact that he's unbeaten in his 24 bouts , he's hardly set the world alight and his last fight against Hughie Fury was absolutely dire imo , for me he was totally outboxed by Fury who just didnt possess the tools to finish the fight. He does have a good chin but then i think he's going to need it as im pretty sure Joshua will be testing it like its never been tested before. Joshua a much more rounded and complete boxer and i think he'll stop Parker handing him the first loss of his career.
Selection - Anthony Joshua
Bet - Anthony Joshua win by TKO/KO

Alexander Povetkin v David Price
Alexander Povetkin (33-1 , 23 KOs) defends his WBA inter continental and WBO international heavyweight titles against David Price (22-3 , 18 KOs) on the undercard of the Joshua / Parker bill. In all honesty i dont think Price has what it takes to trouble Povetkin let alone beat him , Povetkin , whose only loss came against Wladimir Klitschko 5 years ago , is a class above Price imho and i see this as a total mis match and can only see outcome.
Selection - Alexander Povetkin
Bet - Alexander Povetkin win by stoppage

Saturday March 3rd

Deontay Wilder v Luis Ortiz
Wilder (39-0 , 38 KOs) takes on Ortiz (28-0 , 24 KOs) in what is probably the WBC champions toughest task to date , and one that most boxing officiando's are looking forward too. If Wilder isnt on song and at the top of his game then he could well lose this fight as Ortiz has decent movement and hand speed for a heavyweight , and as is noticeable from his record he also packs a punch , plus he also possesses a decent chin , having never been knocked down in his career. Wilder is younger and fitter than Ortiz which is obviously a major plus , especially if the fight goes into the later rounds , and theres no denying he can punch , having stopped his last 6 opponents , but at the same time there have been question marks against most of those which is why Ortiz is going / or should be going to prove to be his sternest test to date. This is a tough one to call as my head is saying Wilder but a part of me keeps saying if Wilder gets sloppy then Ortiz could finish him , but im going to go with my head this time around but as i say it wont be a shock to me should Ortiz do the business.
Selection - Deontay Wilder
Bet - Deontay Wilder , to win rounds 8-12

Kell Brook v Sergey Rabchenko
Kell Brook (36-2 , 25 KOs) takes on Sergey Rabchenko (29-2 , 22 KOs) in what should be a decen fight. Brook is a decent enough boxer but hasnt particularly impressed in his last 2 fights to be honest , and has been in the wars , needing surgery after his last fight for a broken eye socket , all of which is concerning imo , especially against someone like Rabchenko whose a tough opponent , aggressive , good hand speed , and despite getting KO'd last time a usually reliable chin , another thing im worried about is the fact that Brook is moving up from welterweight to light middleweight , as i said he's a decent enough boxer but theres alot of negatives , and for me they outweight the positives , and if he starts slowly and tentatively then i think that Rabchenko will bully and dominate Brook. A really tough one to call but i'm gonna go with Rabchenko to cause an upset.
Selection - Sergey Rabchenko
Bet - Sergey Rabchenko win by KO/TKO

Sergey Kovalev v Igor Mikhalkin
Kovalev (31-2-1 , 27 KOs) meets Mikhalkin (21-1 , 9 KOs) for the WBO light heavyweight title , and this looks all set to be a great fight , Kovalev defends his belt for the first time since producing a cracking 2nd round KO last time out. And that display must of helped boost his confidence after his two defeats. He's an intelligent boxer who uses his brain , he takes his chances and opportunties well , and is patient , very patient ! he'll wait for an opponent to make a mistake and then seize his opportunity , add to that the impressive punching power and he's definatley got a good chance of retaining his title. Mikhalkin cannot be understimated though this will be by far the toughest assignment he's encountered in his career , but he'll be eager to impress and to beat his fellow countryman. He hasnt got the punching power of Kovalev but he has good movement and is an effective counter puncher with good use of combinations , he's also never been on the canvas , but then again he's never fought someone of Kovalevs calibre before and i really do think he's going to be tested in this. I think Mikhalkin will hold his own early doors but i can see Kovalev wearing him down and eventually stopping him.
Selection - Sergey Kovalev
Bet - Sergey Kovalev win by KO/TKO

Selection - Callum Smith Thumbs
Bet - Callum Smith by KO/TKO , Rounds 8-12 Icon_frown

Thai fighter Rungvisai (44-4-1 , 40 KOs) puts his WBC super flyweight title on the line against Mexican Estrada (36-2 , 25 KOs) and for a super flyweight bout , unusually , i'm really looking forward to this one as both can pack a punch , especially Rungvisai who has KO'd an incredible 40 from his 44 wins. The thai is an exciting fighter to watch imo , he likes to dictate the pace of the fight and likes to throw plenty of punches , especially to the body where he's looking to open his opponent up so he can throw that knockout blow when an opening occurs , Estrada is an aggressive fighter as well and he too likes to work the body and neither minds a toe to toe and a trade of punches so as i say this should be a good fight to watch. Estrada is probably the better boxer of the two , marginally , but given the fact that Rungvisai only needs that one chance to KO an opponent he has to be my selection , especially given the fact that Estrada has been decked twice by fighters who arent really renowned as punchers so there has to be a doubt about his chin , especially against a proper banger like Rungvisai.
Selection - Srisaket Sor Rungvisai Thumbs
Bet - Srisaket Sor Rungvisai by KO / TKO Icon_frown
