Saturday 17th February - George Groves v Chris Eubank Jr

This is one fight i'm itching to watch , a real 'Battle Of Britain' , what a bout to look forward to so early on in the New Year ! George Groves (27-3 , 20 KOs) is one of my favourite fighters , he hasnt lost since 2015 and you're always guaranteed a ding dong battle when he's involved in a fight. Chris Eubank Jr (26-1 , 20 KOs) is also on a winning streal of his own , he hasnt lost since 2014 when Billy Joe Saunders beat him and he too is an exciting fighter to watch in the ring. Groves is a born brawler and almost every combination / punch he throws is thrown with menacing intent but sometimes , if the job isnt finished early , he can start to become tired / weary towards the later rounds and that could be dangerous against an opponent like Eubank Jr who seems to have stamina in abundance and has a tremendous workrate , which could prove hugely problematic for Groves should this go into the later rounds. Groves for me is the better boxer of the two , he has good foot movement and can hit hard but his tendency to mix it up rather than box does concern me at times , Eubank Jr has very quick hands and though i never really had him down as a heavy hitter i have noticed that in his last 2 or 3 fights he seems to be punching harder than ever before. Groves has been there , seen it and done it whilst Eubank Jr hasnt but i think its a huge plus that he has his dad in his corner who was one of the best British Super Middleweights this countrys seen. I really cant see this fight going the distance if i'm honest , and being even more honest i'm finding it very difficult to decide whose going to come out on top as both possess the tools to end the fight. I would love to see Groves take this but theres something nagging at me thats telling me that we havent seen the best of Eubank Jr yet and that he's going to walk away the victor.
Selection - Chris Eubank Jr
Bet - Fight doesnt go the distance

Wednesday 13th December - Jeff Horn v Gary Corcoran

Jeff Horn (17-0-1 , 11 KOs) defends his WBO welterweight title against Brit challenger Gary Corcoran (17-1 , 7 KOs) in his hometown of Brisbane. Horn won the belt back in July when beating legend Manny Pacquiao by unanimous decision altho i personally thought he lost that fight (it was a close call) but the judges decided otherwise and this will be the first defence of that title and i think it'll be a winning one as whilst Corcoran is a decent enough boxer i think Horn will prove to strong for him and an added factor is that Corcoran will be fighting outside of the UK for the first time and it'll be in Horns own backyard , plus he's never faced anyone like Horn who for me is on another tier compared to Corcorans previous opponents and i just think that he'll come up short when it counts.
Selection - Jeff Horn
Bet - Jeff Horn by stoppage

Saturday 27th January - Oleksandr Usyk v Mairis Briedis

Oleksandr Usyk (13-0 , 11 KOs) was a decent enough amateur but has made an exemplary start to his professional career and along with gaining a junior heavyweight title he was also ranked by The Ring magazine as the best in his division in May 2017 , Mairis Briedis has also made an unbeaten start to his pro career (23-0 , 18 KOs) and on paper this looks to be a very exciting and watchable match up. Usyk has one helluva punch and he's renowned for his heavy body shots but his overall movement for a cruiserweight/heavyweight is excellent , fast , crisp and clean. Briedis , too , has plenty of power and he has a good boxing brain to boot , which cant be ignored. Either of these pair could end the fight with one punch if im being totally honest but i'm going to side with Usyk in this one (just).
Selection - Oleksandr Usyk
Bet - Oleksandr Usyk by KO / TKO

RE: Dibs Boxing / MMA Thread
Friday 15th December - Alexander Povetkin v Christian Hammer

This looks to be yet another decent match up , Russian Povetkin (32 - 1 , 23 KOs) takes on the German based Rumanian Hammer (22-4 , 12 KOs) with the winner looking likely to challenge one of the divisions big names Joshua , Wilder or Parker for a world title shot. Hammer has looked impressive in his last few fights and looks to have improved greatly since his loss to Tyson Fury but he will have had to improve as Povetkin is no slouch and his only career loss has come against Wladimir Klitschko , he was an olympic gold medallist and for me is the better boxer of the pair ,
despite the fact he's not primarily known as a heavy hitter perhaps he should be as he possesses decent power in his shots and has a 70% KO ratio and that could be hugely problematic for Hammer who has shown in the past that he's susceptible to a good punch. Personally i think Povetkin is going to come out on top and walk away the winner , probably by a stoppage in the middle to later rounds.

Selection - Alexander Povetkin
Bet - Povetkin by stoppage

(24-11-2017 03:50 PM)Dibble Wrote:  Saturday 16th December - Billy Joe Saunders v David Lemieux

The unbeaten BJ Saunders (25-0 , 12 KOs) is putting his WBO middleweight belt on the line against the hard hitting Canadian David Lemieux (38-3 , 33 KOs) in what should be a cracking fight if they both arrive fit and well. Saunders will be coming into this feeling good after retaining his title in September when claiming the scalp of the decent Willie Monroe Jnr by unanimous decision , for me that was one of the best displays of Saunders career to date , if not the best. But he will have to be on the ball against Lemieux who hasnt lost since October 2015 when he was beaten by Gennady Golovkin (no shame in that loss !). Two added factors which could count against Saunders is the fact that he's taking Lemieux on is his own backyard of Quebec and that this will be the first time that he's boxed outside of the UK , hopefully it wont matter but the crowd can play a big part if you let it get to you mentally so i'm hoping that Saunders stays focussed and remains switched on. Both boxers are attack minded , Saunders throws terrific combinations , has good movement and a tight defence whereas Lemieux has power in both fists and a devastating left hook , he'll be looking to open Saunders up so he can land that knock out punch. This could really go either way , if Saunders possesses more punching power then i would side with him to retain the title but as it is i think Lemieux could walk away the new champion , he's on home turf , has the crowd behind him and this will be all new for Saunders and Lemieux can end the fight early if he connects cleanly. I wouldnt write Saunders off as he's a class boxer and its a close call for me but i think things look in Lemieux's favour and he just edges it for me.
Selection - David Lemieux Icon_frown

RE: Dibs Boxing / MMA Thread
Saturday 3rd February - Murat Gassiev v Yunier Dorticos

Yunier Dorticos (22-0 , 21 KOs) defends his WBA (regular) cruiserweight title against Murat Gassiev (25-0 , 18 KOs) who is putting his IBF cruiserweight belt on the line , and as if thats not enough , its also the semi final of the world boxing super series so there's alot at stake here plus of course theres the fact that someones unbeaten record has to go as well , and i can honestly say that this should be an explosive encounter as imo these two are amongst the biggest punchers in the cruiserweight division , if not the two biggest at the moment and i really can't see this one going the distance if i'm being honest. Dorticos is nicknamed the KO Doctor and for obvious reasons , he's despatched 21 of his 22 opponents thus far , i was impressed with him last time when he KO'd the Russian Hammer , a fighter that was supposed to give him a true test , but only managed to get to the 2nd round , for sheer punching power Dorticos is very probably the hardest hitter there is in the division , but Gassiev wouldnt be far off him for punching power and has a tremendous knock out ratio of his own so obviously the chances of a knock out / stoppage in this one is plain for all to see imho. For me Gassiev is the best boxer of the two , technically and tactically , both like to come forward , with Gassiev being what i'd consider a pressure fighter with very accurate powerful punches , this is a very hard fight to call as either could end this if they catch their opponent cleanly but i'm slightly favouring Gassiev as , like i said earlier , i think he's the better boxer , for me he's been in against slightly better opposition and he's fighting on his home turf in Russia which for me would be a big plus , though as i say it is a close call and its only a tentative vote as i have to choose one , but if Dorticos catches him properly then i think its fight over.
Selection - Murat Gassiev
Bet - Fight not to go the distance

Saturday 5th May - David Haye v Tony Bellew

Well i did do a write up about this one already but then Haye got injured again and i'm seriously beginning to doubt my original selection and bet if i'm being totally honest. As i said in my original write up if Haye comes into this totally match fit and 100% then i can see him gaining his revenge over Bellew , but after his latest injury that has now gotta be a HUGE if , surely ?! As i wrote before Bellew will be trying to take this into the later stages where his chances will be greatly enhanced , but he does have to avoid Hayes 'Hayemakers' as theres no doubt the fella can pack a helluva punch and i can see Haye really trying to end this early doors but Bellew is adept at boxing and throwing punches from distance and i can see him successfully keeping out of range and dragging Haye into the later rounds where i think Haye will probably tire , so i'm changing my mind and now going for Bellew to win , probably by decision as i really cant see him knocking Haye out although given Hayes proneness to injury a TK0 could well be on the cards again.
Selection - Tony Bellew
Bet - Tony Bellew by decision/on points

Saturday 24th February - Srisaket Sor Rungvisai v Juan Francisco Estrada

Thai fighter Rungvisai (44-4-1 , 40 KOs) puts his WBC super flyweight title on the line against Mexican Estrada (36-2 , 25 KOs) and for a super flyweight bout , unusually , i'm really looking forward to this one as both can pack a punch , especially Rungvisai who has KO'd an incredible 40 from his 44 wins. The thai is an exciting fighter to watch imo , he likes to dictate the pace of the fight and likes to throw plenty of punches , especially to the body where he's looking to open his opponent up so he can throw that knockout blow when an opening occurs , Estrada is an aggressive fighter as well and he too likes to work the body and neither minds a toe to toe and a trade of punches so as i say this should be a good fight to watch. Estrada is probably the better boxer of the two , marginally , but given the fact that Rungvisai only needs that one chance to KO an opponent he has to be my selection , especially given the fact that Estrada has been decked twice by fighters who arent really renowned as punchers so there has to be a doubt about his chin , especially against a proper banger like Rungvisai.
Selection - Srisaket Sor Rungvisai
Bet - Srisaket Sor Rungvisai by KO / TKO

RE: Dibs Boxing / MMA Thread
Saturday 10th February - Mikey Garcia v Sergey Lipnets

Mikey Garcia (37-0 , 30 KOs) meets Sergey Lipnets (13-0 , 10 KOs) for the IBF world super light weight title and on paper this looks as though it could be a good fight. Garcia is an intelligent boxer who utilises his brain as well as his heavy hands to get the job done and i can see him outboxing Lipnets here , who despite being a decent enough boxer and coming into this as defending champion really has to up his game as for me Garcia is in another league. As i say Lipnets is a decent enough boxer and its obvious from his record alone that he packs a powerful punch but he's a bullying fighter who tends to force the issue in the ring and i cant see that working against someone of Garcia's quality. Lipnets has never fought someone of Garcia's calibre and if i'm being hoonest i dont think he has enough , after 13 fights , to step up to the plate , and Garcia is certainly going to test his metal and his chin like its never been tested so far in his career. Like i say i think Lipnets is a decent enough boxer but i just cant see him having the skill set to handle someone like Garcia and i can see him losing his unbeaten record and the belt.
Selection - Mikey Garcia
Bet - Fight not to go the distance
